Why will my iPod 160GB Classic not charge?

I've had it since about Christmas this year and since then its been absolutely fine till yesterday, I put it on my Goodman's dock and it wouldn't connect and also for some reason the dock lost power and the display of the dock went off when the iPod was on it. I then tried connecting it to both mine and my mom's laptops with two different apple USB cables and it woulden't respond, I just got a message on the desktop about the device not being recognized, I also tried it through my Xbox. I have restarted it by holding middle button and menu and did some reset in the ipod settings. None of this has worked, any help please? I'm baffled.
