I hooked my ps2 up to my computer monitor and now it wont work?

i hooked my ps2 up to a computer monitor. i think the monitor is VGA but idk bout all that stuff. i hooked it up and it used to read the connection but say change sometin and now it wont read it at all and just says check video cables.
